NHS Clubs
Due to concerns about the spread of Covid, the clubs at NHS were delayed at the beginning of the school year. Students have been patiently awaiting the return of their favorite lunchtime or after-school activity. and finally, their wait is over and they can begin meeting with their respective groups. There is something on campus for everyone such as Hiking with Mrs. Sloane, Pride with Mrs. Kelley Breaux, Native Club with Gena Chavira, and Chess with Mr. Thomas. ”I have a tournament for chess and later this year one for checkers and one for crazy eights. There are currently 24 people signed up to compete. The motivation to play is fun & competition. I also award money for contestants placing from first to fifth place. First place receives $40, second $30, third $20, fourth $10, and fifth $5.”
As of last week, Mrs. Kim Breaux held the first meeting of the Interact Club which focuses on community service. New to campus this year will be Cooking with Chef Jones and Dance with Ms. McKee. The Dance Club will be geared towards those students who like to dance but do not necessarily want to participate in Cheer. Each week the members will meet to learn a routine and will hopefully perform them at various functions. Needles High School also offers clubs that can be taken for school credit like Yearbook or AVID with Mrs. Belt, ASB with Mrs. Kelley Breaux, and Journalism with Ms. McKee. Students can find out more information about each club from the Club Advisors.
